A Century of Authentic Wisdom

Our Homage to Sage Patanjali

The Life Management Yoga Centre LMYC is honoured to be part of a century-old tradition. Our lineage connects Hong Kong practitioners directly to an unbroken history of authentic yogic education, science, and research.

Our Roots: We are proudly affiliated with The Yoga Institute (TYI) in Mumbai, India—the world’s oldest organised yoga institute, established in 1918.

Our Legacy: Our foundation is built upon the visionary teachers who first carried classical yoga from India to the global stage.

Our Guidance: The timeless wisdom, discipline, and deep compassion of our founders continue to guide every single class and workshop we offer in Hong Kong.

By practising with us, you are not just taking a yoga class; you are participating in living an authentic tradition of yoga tailored for modern life in the busy district of Hong Kong.

Meet the Masters
Shri Yogendra ji
Founder (1897–1989)

Shri Yogendraji, one of only two chosen students of Paramahansa Madhavdasji, was a pioneer of modern classical yoga. He founded The Yoga Institute in 1918, the world’s oldest organized yoga centre, and introduced yoga to the West by opening a New York branch in 1920. Known for his scientific, householder-friendly approach, he authored landmark texts such as Hatha Yoga Simplified and Guide to Meditation. His revolutionary work was microfilmed and preserved in the U.S. Crypt of Civilization.

Paramhamsa Madhavdas ji
Founder Guru (1798–1921)

Paramhamsa Madhavdasji was a Bengali yoga master who traveled India for 50 years and practiced in the Himalayas before teaching at age 80. Devoted to reviving dying traditions, he chose only two students to spread yoga worldwide. Among them was Shri Yogendraji, whom he encouraged to scientifically study yoga’s benefits, laying the spiritual foundation for The Yoga Institute.

Smt. Sitadevi Yogendra
Mother (1912–2008)

Smt. Sitadevi Yogendra, known as “Mother,” partnered with Shri Yogendraji from 1927, running the Institute and pioneering yoga programmes for women and children—helping dispel the myth that yoga was only for men.

Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra
President (1929–2018)

Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra served as President until 2018, launching flagship teacher-training courses and founding the International Board of Yoga (1975) to preserve authentic education. After earning his Ph.D. in Samkhya in Moksha and Yoga (1965), he conceived numerous educational and therapeutic programs. As a prolific writer and editor, his major works include the Yoga Cyclopedia series, Yoga Today, and Yoga Therapy.
